Outage Update (9:00 PM): Charlottetown & Pinsent’s Arm

9:00 PM – As of approximately 9:00 PM, we have restored power to all of our customers in Charlottetown and Pinsent’s Arm using temporary generation equipment in place at the diesel plant site.
We want to thank all of our customers for their continued patience and support today as we worked to safely restore power. We will provide further updates in the coming days as more information is available regarding the diesel plant.

4:00 PM – This afternoon we have mobilized all available resources to assist with efforts to fully assess the diesel plant site and establish a plan to safely restore power for customers in Charlottetown and Pinsent’s Arm.
Our crew on the ground is examining the potential to restore power using temporary generation units that were in place at the site prior to the fire. Our crew is working hard and hope to be able to restore some customers tonight, however, there is a possibility the outage may continue for all customers into tomorrow. We ask that customers continue to prepare for extended outages – please stay safe, check on family and friends, and visit our website and social media sites for updates.
We want to extend our sincere thanks to the Town and local officials, RCMP, the local fire department and volunteers for their assistance and cooperation. We are also extremely grateful to residents in the community who have kindly provided our staff and those who responded to the fire this morning, with food, coffee and other support.

10:30 AM – We are continuing to assess the site following the fire at our diesel plant in Charlottetown this morning. We’re focused on restoring power for customers as quickly as possible. Once our assessment is complete, we will be able to provide customers with more information about a possible restoration time.

We are looking for every solution possible to bring power back on in the area. Updates will be provided throughout the day as we have a better indication of restoration time.

Previous:
8:45 a.m. – Early this morning a fire broke out at Hydro’s diesel plant in Charlottetown, Labrador. The local fire department responded immediately and secured the site, and have now extinguished the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
There is no safety risk to residents however we ask that people please avoid the area for their safety and the safety of emergency personnel on site.
Currently customers in Charlottetown and Pinsent’s Arm are without power as a result of the fire. We are communicating with local stakeholders and once we are able to safely assess the site, our priority will immediately focus on restoring power for customers.
