Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
At Hydro we are inclusive and collaborative. We welcome diversity and understand its value. We work together, listen to each other and serve with respect.
We are continually striving to create a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). We welcome all experiences, knowledge and backgrounds, recognizing that it enhances our culture and contributes to our success. We pursue a work environment where all employees can belong and thrive.
We have been on our EDI journey for over a decade and have undertaken some key initiatives to enhance our progress. These include:
- Engaging employees through a variety of means, whether it be through sharing information, hosting speakers or through volunteer and committee opportunities.
- Implementing a self-identification survey to better understand our workforce.
- Establishing gender equity targets to increase the representation of women in areas including trades, technology and engineering.
- Integrating an equity, diversity and inclusion lens through our recruitment and talent management processes.
- Implementing diversity & inclusion training for all employees with enhanced requirements for supervisors.
- Recognizing and celebrating various equity, diversity and inclusion calendar days for diverse groups (including: Multiculturalism Day, National Indigenous People’s Day, International Day for Persons with Disabilities, Pride Month and more).
- Working with and supporting community groups who aid underrepresented groups.
In 2024 we received Atlantic Business Magazine’s Employers of Diversity Award as a recognition of of the inclusive corporate culture here at Hydro.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy
Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion continues to evolve and as part of the next phase of our multi-year strategy to support and enhance EDI within our organization we have identified three key pillars:
- The Employee Experience
- Ownership and Integration Across the Business
- Partnerships and External Engagement
Through focus on these pillars, we will continue to improve and enhance inclusion and belonging at Hydro.
