Our Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA)
Here at Hydro we are inclusive and collaborative. We welcome diversity and understand its value as we work together, listen to each other and serve with respect.
We have been on our IDEA journey for over a decade and are continually striving to improve. We know our commitment in this space is important to creating a culture of inclusion and a genuine sense of belonging, which is why it’s embedded in our corporate values, our sustainability priorities as well as our Strategic Plan and our Accessibility Plan.
Over the years we have undertaken some key initiatives to enhance our progress in this space, including:
- Engaging employees, by sharing information, hosting speakers or offering volunteer and committee opportunities.
- Establishing gender equity targets to increase the representation of women in areas including trades, technology and engineering.
- Integrating an IDEA lens through our recruitment and talent management processes.
- Implementing diversity and inclusion training for all employees with enhanced requirements for supervisors.
- Recognizing and celebrating various IDEA focused calendar days throughout the year (including: International Women’s Day, Multiculturalism Day, National Indigenous People’s Day, International Day for Persons with Disabilities, Pride Month and more).
- Working with community groups who support underrepresented groups.

In 2024 we received Atlantic Business Magazine’s Employers of Diversity Award as a recognition of of the inclusive corporate culture here at Hydro.
Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy
Our commitment in this space continues to evolve and as part of the next phase of our multi-year strategy to support and enhance IDEA within our organization we have identified three key pillars:
- The Employee Experience
- Ownership and Integration Across the Business
- Partnerships and External Engagement
Through focusing on these pillars, we will continue to improve and enhance inclusion and belonging at Hydro.
Our Accessibility Plan
Aligning with the provincial Accessibility Act, we have created and published an Accessibility Plan (the Plan). As this is Hydro’s first Accessibility Plan, it aims to identify, prevent and remove barriers within Hydro. The Plan spans 2024 – 2026 and will bring focus to Employment, Customer Service, Information and Communication, Information Technology and the Built Environment.
Accessibility Statement of Commitment: Here at Hydro, we strive for a safe and inclusive work environment where everyone has equitable access and opportunity. We are committed to identifying, preventing and removing barriers for persons with disabilities who work with us and for those who interact with our company.
