Update on EV charger repairs in Whitbourne

Hydro has been actively working to repair the Level 3 (DCFC) electric vehicle charger in Whitbourne for the past several weeks. Unfortunately this charger remains unavailable at this time.

Since the charger first went offline in December, we have been working closely with representatives from ChargePoint to troubleshoot and fix the unit. We are waiting to receive replacement parts from the manufacturer, but it is taking longer than usual due to supply chain issues experienced by ChargePoint. A restoration time for the charger is currently unknown.

While the Whitbourne DCFC is unavailable, please note:

  • Drivers can continue to use the Level 2 charger at that location (6 kW).
  • Alternatively, the nearest fast charging stations are located in Goobies (travelling west) or in Holyrood (travelling east).
  • We encourage everyone to check ahead for charger availability before you travel using the ChargePoint or PlugShare apps.

We know this is frustrating for drivers and recognize that there is interest in seeing more chargers added around the province. We are actively exploring options to make charging more accessible in future, and are committed to expanding the charging network throughout Newfoundland and Labrador as more and more drivers make the switch to an electric vehicle.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to get the Whitbourne charger back online as soon as possible. We will provide further updates as more information and a restoration time are known.
