UPDATE – Equipment Advisory- Transmission line offline for annual maintenance (Avalon)
April 22, 2016
UPDATE – April 24, 2016
Transmission line has been to returned to service, as per schedule.
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) wishes to advise customers that one of two transmission lines servicing the Avalon is currently offline to install a new breaker. The line is expected to be back in service tomorrow (April 23).
A second line, which also services the Avalon, is fully operational and available. There are no anticipated customer impacts.
Hydro’s annual maintenance season generally begins in April when customer electricity demand begins to decline and extends to November in preparation for the winter months.
During this time, Hydro maintains, replaces, and upgrades electricity equipment throughout the province. This includes preventative and corrective maintenance work and inspections, as well as larger capital projects.
Generation units and transmission lines will be removed from service for periods of time in order to complete the work. These yearly planned equipment outages are closely monitored and coordinated to ensure customer supply and system reserve requirements are met.
Hydro’s maintenance program is part of the Company’s mandate to invest in the province’s electricity system to ensure delivery of safe and reliable electricity for customers. All major equipment advisories will be posted on our website here.
