Public Safety Advisory – Star Lake and Upper Salmon

Residents, cabin owners and travelers in the Star Lake area of Central Newfoundland are advised that the company has stopped releasing water at the Star Lake Spillway into Star Brook and Beothuk Lake. The potential for additional releases remains, which could resume at any time. People are advised to use the area with great caution as water levels and flows may be higher than normal and may be unpredictable.

Hydro is also advising residents, cabin owners and travelers in the Upper Salmon area of Central Newfoundland that there is no longer the potential for a controlled release of water from the North Salmon Dam Spillway into the North Salmon River at this time.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travellers in the Star Lake area of Central Newfoundland that due to high reservoir water levels from recent rainfall and snowmelt, the Company is releasing water at the Star Lake Spillway into Star Brook and Beothuk Lake.

The Company may also be required to release water in the Upper Salmon area of Central Newfoundland at the North Salmon Dam Spillway into the North Salmon River.

Releases may begin at any time in the coming days. People are advised to use these areas with great caution as water levels and flows will be higher than normal and may be unpredictable.
