Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travellers that controlled releases are still occurring and there is a potential for releases at additional areas within the next few days.

Controlled releases continue in the following areas:

• Jackson’s Arm and White Bay area on Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. The Company has now begun to release water from its Cat Arm Spillway into the Cat Arm River.
• Star Lake in Central Newfoundland. The Company is releasing water at the Star Lake Spillway into Star Brook and then Red Indian Lake.
• Victoria Lake and Victoria River area in Southwestern Newfoundland. The company is releasing water at the Victoria Dam Spillway.

There is the potential for controlled releases in the following additional areas:

• Hinds Lake area of Western Newfoundland. The Company may begin to release water from its Hinds Lake spillway through the Hinds Lake Brook into Grand Lake.
• Upper Salmon area of Central Newfoundland. The Company may begin to release water from its North Salmon Dam spillway into the North Salmon River.
• In the Jeddore Lake/Bay d’Espoir area in Southern Newfoundland. The Company advises that it may soon be required to initiate a controlled water release at the Salmon River Spillway. This will result in higher than normal flows in the Salmon River and closure of the access road to the Upper Salmon Development which will prevent traffic from entering or leaving the area.

People are advised to use these areas with great caution as water levels and flows are higher than normal and may be unpredictable. Water releases at spillways could begin at any time.
