Public Advisory: Scheduled Maintenance on the Labrador Island Link Begins
September 7, 2026
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) would like to advise customers of scheduled maintenance taking place this month on the Labrador Island Link as part of our annual maintenance program.
Scheduled Maintenance Dates:
- September 8-13
- September 23-29
During these times, there will be planned and routine outages on the Labrador Island Link to allow our crews to safely perform the work required to ensure reliable operation over the winter season.
Because the Labrador Island Link has two main wires that deliver power to the Island, power can continue to flow over one wire, while crews perform work on the other. This allows us to continue to meet supply requirements using hydroelectricity from Labrador instead of more expensive forms of generation that run on fuel.
When one wire out of service for maintenance, the Labrador Island Link’s normal level of backup is not available and there is a low probability of a power interruption. We are taking every precaution to ensure that this does not occur. In the unlikely event of a power interruption, we are prepared and have supply available to restore customers quickly — typically within 30 minutes.
We will monitor the system closely throughout the maintenance period and keep customers informed if any issues arise. Updates will be posted on our website, Facebook and X.
We appreciate your patience while we complete this important work on the electricity system. We know our customers rely on us to provide safe, reliable energy, and we take that responsibility seriously.
