Updated: Public Advisory – Notice to Customers on Avalon
November 8, 2015
Update – 11 Am – The Western Avalon terminal station has been returned to service.
Previous Advisory
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising that crews are currently investigating a transformer issue at the Western Avalon terminal station this morning.
As previously reported, one of two high voltage transmission lines that connect the Avalon Peninsula to the island power system is currently offline for annual planned maintenance work. The system is designed to meet peak demands even when one line is out of service. There are no anticipated customer power outages related to this morning’s transformer issues or the ongoing transmission line work.
However, as a precautionary measure Hydro would like to ask customers on the Avalon to be prepared for potential outages in the unlikely event there are issues on the second transmission line. The combustion turbine at Holyrood is currently being brought online and generation reserves are strong.
This message is part of Hydro’s commitment to keeping customers informed on the status of the electricity system. We will continue to provide updates on significant system events.
It is always a good idea to be prepared and know what to do in the event of power outages.
