UPDATED Public Advisory: Controlled Release of Water at Cat Arm Spillway and in Star Lake Area

June 23, 2026 – Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travelers that due to recent rainfall and runoff from snowmelt, the Company is releasing water at the following locations:
- in the Jackson’s Arm and White Bay area on the island’s Northwest Coast, at the Cat Arm Spillway into the Cat Arm River.
- in the Star Lake area of Central Newfoundland at the Star Lake Spillway into Star Brook and then Beothuk Lake.
In addition, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travelers that due to high reservoir levels and forecasted rainfall, the Company may be required to release water in the Hinds Lake area of Western Newfoundland at Hinds Lake Spillway through Hinds Brook into Grand Lake.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travelers in the Jackson’s Arm and White Bay area on the island’s Northwest Coast that the company is releasing water at the Cat Arm Spillway into the Cat Arm River.
The Company may also be required to resume water releases in the Star Lake area of Central Newfoundland at the Star Lake Spillway into Star Brook and then Beothuk Lake because of high water levels and forecasted rain.
