Power Watch for Customers on the Avalon Peninsula – 11:00AM Update

January 6th, 2016

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising customers that the Power Watch issued this morning will remain in effect for the Avalon Peninsula ONLY. This is a result of one unit of three at the Holyrood Plant remaining offline for necessary repairs. No immediate action is required for customers, however due to colder temperatures and high demands the electricity system on the Avalon is being monitored closely and Hydro is working with Newfoundland Power to meet customer electricity needs.

Cold weather is expected again on Friday and therefore Hydro will continue to watch the system closely until that time and will advise customers of any changes.

An investigation into the cause of issue with the Holyrood unit is ongoing and we expect an update on unit status over the coming days. All other available generating units will be online to meet customer demand and there are no outages expected at this time.

Although a formal conservation request is not currently in effect, conservation is always a good idea and customers are being asked to be prepared to conserve in the event of a status change. If you’d like to know how you can make a difference through conservation, visit our website here: https://nlhydro.com/customer-service/energy-savings/takecharge-program/. This advisory is part of Hydro’s ongoing commitment to keep customers informed on the status of the electricity system and significant system events.
