Update: Power Warning still in effect; customers asked to conserve during evening peak
February 3, 2016
Hydro is advising that Unit 2 at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Station has been returned to service. Unit 1 had to be taken offline to further investigate the cause of this morning’s trip and remains unavailable.
Unit 2 is being brought online slowly and the Power Warning will remain in effect during the evening peak – we continue to ask customers to conserve electricity during this time (4-8 pm).
When everyone uses electricity at the same time, it creates a peak demand on our system. Reducing your energy during these hours will help us reduce our strain on the system, and can help us all stay safe. Please wait until after 8 pm to use non-essential electricity in your homes and business this evening.
We would also like to thank customers for your assistance by conserving energy this morning. Your efforts make a difference and help stabilize the system.
Please conserve by:
– turning back heat a few degrees
– limit use of hot water (don’t use dishwasher, clothes washer)
– turn off unnecessary lighting
– reduce use of appliances
This advisory is part of our commitment to keep customers informed on the status of the system and system events.
