Previous Advisory

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising that there will be an extended power outage on Sunday, June 5 affecting customers in the Labrador West region to complete critical annual maintenance work.
The planned outage, which will take place 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, will affect all customers in Labrador City and Wabush. This power interruption is necessary in order to complete scheduled annual maintenance work on the Wabush terminal station. In addition, this outage provides an opportunity to complete work on the distribution system within the communities that would alternatively need to be completed during separate scheduled outages.
Hydro understands the impact that extended outages have on customers and we thank you for your patience. This work is required to ensure safe and reliable service for customers in Labrador West.
You can prepare for the outages by ensuring you have your emergency kit ready in advance and know how to be safe during outages. Information on outage safety can be found here.
Hydro’s annual maintenance season generally begins in April when customer electricity demand begins to decline and extends to November in preparation for the winter months.
During this time, Hydro maintains, replaces, and upgrades electricity equipment throughout the province. This includes preventative and corrective maintenance work and inspections, as well as larger capital projects. For more information about our annual summer maintenance season, read here.
Hydro will provide updates during the planned outage on June 5 on social media @ www.twitter.com/nlhydro or www.facebook.com/nlhydro or visit us online at www.nlhydro.com.
