Planned outage scheduled from Monday, April 16 at 10PM until Tuesday, April 17 at 4AM

Hydro is advising that a power outage is scheduled from Monday night (April 16) at 10:00 PM until Tuesday morning (April 17) at 4:00 AM, which will affect some customers in the Upper Lake Melville area.

The outage is required to allow Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation (CF(L)Co) to safely carry out repairs on their equipment. The repairs are needed to maintain reliability of the electricity system and the supply of power to central Labrador.

We understand that outages have an impact on our customers. We have been working closely with CFLCo to plan this work and schedule the repairs during overnight hours to reduce the impact on our customers as much as possible.

Back-up generation will be used to provide power to as many customers as possible while the work is carried out. However, with high customer demand there is a possibility that additional customers will experience an outage. We are reminding all homeowners and businesses in the area to please be prepared for the potential for service disruptions during this time.

How Can You Help?

To keep electricity demand lower during this period and help avoid outages to additional customers, we are asking customers in the area with power to conserve energy and limit electricity use between 10:00 PM on Monday, April 16 and 4:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17:

• Minimize your use of hot water by avoiding running dishwashers, showers, etc. during that period
• Avoid using clothes washers and dryers
• Turn electric heat down a few degrees
• Switch off lights, appliances and electronics that aren’t in use
