The Penstock 1 project at Bay d’Espoir has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone for the site and the first project completed under Hydro’s current Major Projects portfolio. The work included the replacement and refurbishment of approximately 2,600 feet of existing penstock, along with the installation of an additional 1,100 feet of new penstock.

It’s completion represents an important step forward as upgrades will play a critical role in improving the long-term reliability and performance by reducing the risk of unplanned outages and enhancing operational efficiency.

The project stands out for its strong project management, high-quality execution, and focus on safety. It was delivered on budget, with zero recordable injuries and no reportable environmental incidents – an achievement that reflects the team’s commitment to doing the work safely and responsibly.

This success was made possible through the collaboration and dedication of the project team, Bay d’Espoir plant operations, partner contractors, and local communities. Their careful planning, teamwork, and shared commitment to excellence were key to delivering a smooth and successful project.
