How to read your residential meter

< Back to Good to Know

Wherever possible, we read meters on a monthly basis. If we’re unable to obtain a meter reading due to circumstances beyond our control, we may estimate the reading.  However, you can manually read your meter and submit it to us by email at customerservices@nlh.nl.ca or by calling us at 1-888-737-1296.

The date of your next meter reading is posted on your bill. Read your meter and submit the reading as close to that date as you can.

Here’s how to do it

Your meter reading will include 5 numbers. Record the number on each dial.

Each dial has an alternating sequence of numbers (clockwise and counter-clockwise).
Start at 0 and follow the numbers around in sequence (0, 1, 2, 3…) and record the number that the dial hand has just passed.

Here’s an example:

This meter reading would be: 91054 (kilowatt hours)

You can also take a photo of your meter and send it in via email, indicating your account number and meter number. Some of our customers have digital meters. If this is the case, the number associated with your electricity consumption is clearly indicated digitally.

If you have any questions, as always, we are here to help at 1-888-737-1296
