Get to Know: Our Fall 2025 Co-op Students

Each term we are excited to have co-op students join our teams here at Hydro. Read more about our Fall 2025 students, why they were drawn to a work term here, the work they’re doing with our teams here at Hydro and what excites them about the energy industry.

ALEAH DROVER, Long Term Asset Planning Team, Hydraulic Production
Mechanical Engineering, Term 5 (MUN)
Aleah has always been intrigued by how things work and enjoys challenging and intellectually stimulating problems. While she has always been interested in becoming an engineer she was unsure of what exactly the career entailed, but now she can’t imagine being any happier with her chosen career path.
This is Aleah’s second work term with Hydro, working with our Long-Term Asset Planning (LTAP) Hydraulic Production Team – a team responsible for monitoring the condition of every Hydraulic Production asset to the end of its useful life. As part of this team, Aleah works to create and update preventative maintenance check sheets to ensure everything is up to date. Aleah has enjoyed having the opportunity to visit almost all of our Hydroelectric Generating Stations on the island.
Aleah’s favourite part of her experience has been the mentorship and collaboration she’s experienced here at Hydro. She has met many people, on site and in the office, who have all made her work experiences even better.
Fun Fact: Aleah is the first person in her family to pursue engineering and she is always looking for opportunities to grow and learn.
“I chose to return to Hydro because of the positive experience I had during my previous placement. The team made me feel welcomed and supported, and I was able to develop valuable skills while contributing to meaningful projects. I’m glad to have the opportunity to be back and continue to grow in an environment where I feel both challenged and supported.”

BRIAN KIRITTA, Long Term Asset Planning Team, Churchill Falls
Mechanical Engineering, Term 8 (MUN)
Brian has excelled in math and sciences from a young age, which naturally drew him toward a field so closely aligned with these subjects and his passion for the aviation industry is what ultimately led him to pursue engineering.
This is Brian’s second work term with us in Churchill Falls. As part of the Long Term Asset Planning Team he is often diving into FEED Alignment Documents or contract development. He also looks forward to any opportunity to get into the field, for inspection, testing, or to check in on a project that may be underway. This work term has given Brian an opportunity to observe how large-scale, capital assets are managed over multi-decade timelines which has helped him gain valuable exposure to forecasting, risk modeling and condition assessment processes.
Fun Fact: Brian is from Tanzania, completed his high school education in Malaysia and has been in Canada for nearly four years now pursuing his post-secondary studies. He enjoys playing video games, watching movies, TV shows and soccer.
“My first work term here was in 2023 and I had a fantastic experience. The team was very welcoming, which made it easy to settle in and contribute meaningfully, so I’m very excited to be back. Churchill Falls offers an excellent work environment with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. The team is incredibly supportive and always ready to help at every step.”

DANIEL WARREN, Menihek Generation Project Execution Team
Mechanical Engineering, Term 5 (MUN)
Daniel has always been interested in Mechanical Engineering and curious about how things interconnect. He continues to look forward to a career in this field.
This is Daniel’s second work term with Hydro and this term he is working closely with project managers and project engineers on our Menihek, Project Execution Team, to keep track of project progress updates, project meetings, submittals and project changes. Daniel is excited for the experience he’s gaining in project execution and as he further develops his technical design skills. His favourite experience so far has been his site visit to Menihek to see his work up close. He’s excited to see the global and local push for electrification and enjoys being a part of the Hydro team.
Fun Fact: Daniel is from St. John’s and enjoys golfing, playing rugby and refereeing basketball in his free time. He also loves to travel, whether with friends or for rugby, and was lucky enough to see Bruce Springsteen in Wales and Oasis in Toronto.
“The reason I wanted to come back to work at Hydro was because of Hydro’s commitment to safe low-cost energy for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.”

FRANCIS GRIFFIN, Water Resources Team, Churchill Falls
Civil Engineering, Term 5 (MUN)
Francis has always had an interest in physics and chemistry and chose to pursue civil engineering due to his interest in construction and the opportunity for field work.
This is Francis’ second work term with our Water Resources Team in Churchill Falls, where he completes daily inspections on high-risk dykes. His role also includes taking readings from seepage monitoring devices and piezometer readings across the system and in the underground powerhouse, as well as inspections of the Muskrat Falls system. Francis especially enjoys completing the monthly precipitation readings at our more remote sites by helicopter and completing aerial inspections of the dykes and our Menihek Hydrogeneration Station. He’s excited to work in an industry where we can effectively utilize our province’s natural resources to the benefit of everyone.
Fun Fact: Francis is from Torbay, where he referees minor hockey in his spare time. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, rec hockey and driving his dirt bike.
“I returned to Hydro because of how much I enjoyed my first work term, both the day-to-day work and the great people I get to work with and have the chance to learn from. I’ve learned so much about our dam safety program and hope to continue with geotechnical engineering as a career.”

HANNAH JENKINS, Long Term Asset Planning Team, Terminals
Electrical Engineering, Term 8 (MUN)
Hannah has always been interested in pursuing a career in science, but it wasn’t until she chatted with her friend’s father, an electrical engineer who works in P&C, about his job that she realized her interest in electrical engineering.
This is Hannah’s fifth work term and her second with us as part of our Long Term Asset Planning – Terminals Team. She’s very excited to be back with this team, working on terminal station power transformers, with a focus on asset management and transformer preventative maintenance. Her work includes analyzing oil samples from power transformers, optimizing maintenance cycles for power transformers and updating long-term plans, as well as identifying suitable replacements for power transformer bushings (particularly important due to our commitment to entirely phase out PCBs by the end of 2025). Hannah is getting to see different parts of the electricity industry from an electrical engineering standpoint which she is excited to apply to her future career goals.
Fun Fact: Outside of work, Hannah loves hiking, camping, going to the gym, sea kayaking and playing music with her friends.
“I am very passionate about sustainability and enjoy getting to work on projects which provide reliable electricity in our province. The energy industry is always innovating, and it’s very exciting to have the opportunity to work with industry leaders in the field.”

JADZIA PENNEY, Engineering Services Team
Electrical Engineering, Term 8 (MUN)
Jadzia has been competing in MATE ROV competitions since the ninth grade – it has been a passion of hers all her life and is what initially drew her towards a career in engineering. She still competes with Eastern Edge at the University level.
This is Jadzia’s second work term with Hydro. As a part of our Engineering Services Team, Jadzia is working on getting things ready for the commissioning of instrument transformers at some of our terminal stations and working on as-built drawings for grounding upgrades in BlueBeam. She’s also been able to take on the CMR role at a construction site for Electric Vehicle chargers and is having a lot of fun out in the field!
Fun Fact: Jadzia is the Marketing Lead for Eastern Edge Robotics, a student design team based out of the Marine Institute and is a committee member for MUN’s Relay for Life. She’s also an avid reader and Pokémon card collector.
“I decided to come back to Hydro because the company culture is so great! Everyone that I work with is so helpful and that’s allowed me learn a lot. Also, when I think about being an engineer, I think a lot about how I can help others – my main goal is to have a positive impact on my community and, through Hydro, I know that I am doing just that!”

JAYDA SQUIRES, Menihek Generation Team
Electrical Engineering, Term 5 (MUN)
Jayda chose a career in electrical engineering because she wanted to use her passion for math, physics and problem-solving to solve real-world problems and make a positive difference in the world.
This is Jayda’s second work term with Hydro. As a part of our Menihek Generation Team, Jayda works on interesting projects, learns a lot from her team and contributes to meaningful work supporting the Menihek Generating Station. This can include updating and trending maintenance data, tracking preventative maintenance completion, updating operating procedures, attending project meetings and many other tasks. One of Jayda’s favourite experiences so far has been going to site and seeing the operations and projects being executed firsthand – especially since it included helicopter travel which she found to be a very fun and cool experience. Jayda is very interested in working in the energy industry, so this experience will help her explore potential career paths as she considers a long-term career within this field after graduation.
Fun Fact: Jayda is a member of Robogals, a group at MUN which encourages youth to explore and learn about STEM – a great way to combine her passions for engineering and helping others learn. Originally from Marystown, in her spare time you can find Jayda hiking, reading a good thriller and listening to music.
“I wanted to come back to Hydro because I love the people I work with, and it is such a positive work environment. The energy industry is constantly evolving and working at Hydro means being part of a team focused on safely powering communities while protecting the environment.”

LOGAN CROCKER, Training and Development Team
Bachelor of Commerce (Co-op), MUN
Early in her education, Logan realized that she did not want a career focused entirely on crunching numbers. She loves that Human Resources allows her to combine analytical skills with people-focused work, which better aligns with her strengths and interests.
As a member of our Training and Development Team, Logan works with our Learning Management System (LMS) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, to track, maintain, and update employee training records. As Logan’s past work term focused on recruitment, experiencing a different aspect of the Human Resources function is helping to broaden her skill set. Her role involves a lot of collaboration within our Business Development group, which is something Logan really enjoys.
Fun Fact: Logan is a dedicated volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada, where she serves as a Unit Leader for Sparks, Pathfinders, and Rangers. She is also a member of the GGC NL Council Finance Committee. In addition to her B. Comm (Co-op) degree, Logan is completing a minor in French. In December 2024, she earned her DELF B2 certification, which certifies her French language proficiency for life.
“While my role focuses on Human Resources, it’s pretty exciting to know that the work I’m doing supports an organization that keeps the lights on (literally) for people across the province!”

SHAWNA EDWARDS, Protection, Controls and Communications Team
Electrical Engineering, Term 8 (MUN)
Shawna has always been interested in science, math, and technology and curious about how things are made. When a teacher suggested engineering to her in high school, she realized that all her interests would be well suited for this field. After thoroughly enjoying the programming and circuit related courses in her first year, she ended up choosing to pursue electrical engineering.
During a previous work-term, Shawna discovered her interest in telecommunications and applied to this job hoping to be able to learn more about this field. As a part of our Protection, Controls and Communications Team, Shawna’s daily routine varies day to day. Some days she may be working at her computer preparing work installation documents or editing/creating engineering drawings and other times she can be found working in the testing lab setting up, testing, and programming equipment parameters, or simulating field conditions for telecoms equipment. The testing lab is the part of her role that Shawna finds most interesting and her work term has confirmed that she can see herself working in this field in the future.
Fun Fact: Shawna is from a small town, Lawn, located on the Burin Peninsula, but moved to St. John’s for university. She loves travelling, exploring new places, cooking, baking and playing pickleball.
“Hydro’s telecontrol infrastructure is so large and intricate which makes learning about it very interesting, plus I wanted to work for a company with strong values. I love the work I’m doing and having the opportunity for field visits to places like Come by Chance, Sunnyside, Western Avalon and Stony Brook.”

TAJ MAHABUB, Project Execution Team
Mechanical Engineering, Term 5 (MUN)
Taj is inspired by the automobile and space industries – he dreams of building systems and machines that stand out and lead to developing a deeper understanding of our world.
As a part of our Project Execution Team, Taj works primarily on the Terminals Program and Generation Program within our Engineering Services Department. Taj’s work includes updating databases and project trackers and compiling budget forecasts for a number of projects. He also works on reprogramming commissioning manuals for various breakers and is always collaborating with other members of his team, gaining insight into how large-scale capital projects are executed which supports his long-term goal of working in the automotive or aerospace industries. During his work term, Taj has loved getting involved with our Hydro Place social club, organizing events all while making new friends and fun memories.
Fun Fact: Taj is a very active person who loves hiking, going to the gym and playing soccer. He also loves design and building in general, especially when it involves thinking outside the box.
“A lot of my core values align with Hydro, specifically serving the community – as an engineering student I feel that is an important core value to have. Hydro is also an exciting place to learn and contribute, as I can be part of projects that not only strengthen my technical skills but also support a sustainable future for the province.”

TARIKHUSAIN (TARIK) BODA, Long Term Asset Planning Team, Churchill Falls
Electrical Engineering, Term 8 (MUN)
Seeing his father’s dedication and ethics, as a retired engineer, motivated Tarik to follow in his footsteps and choose a career in engineering as well.
This is Tarik’s third work term with us but his first in Churchill Falls. As a part of our Long Term Asset Planning Team, he predominately works to pull historical data and develop FAD’s (FEED Align Documents) for many of the assets in Churchill Falls. He was amazed by the opportunity to tour the underground power house in Churchill Falls and the huge scale of an operation more than 1,000 feet underground.
Fun Fact: Tarik is originally from a small town in India/Gujarat, he lived for seven years in New Zealand and has been in Canada for the past three years.
“During previous work-terms, the support of supervisors and colleagues made me want to come back and complete the final work-term of my degree with Hydro. Everyone is happy to help or teach you and I know I’m getting one of the best experiences for an electrical engineer.”
