Jeanine sits at the desk in her office with her computer screen in the background.

As a Financial Specialist for Transmission Operations, Jeanine’s work days are filled with analyzing and presenting data but her free time is spent giving back to those around her – whether that’s keeping busy with her daughter or volunteering her time in her community of Bay d’Espoir.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am originally from the small community of Gaultois. From a very young age I always had an interest in math and loved working with numbers so after high school I enrolled in MUN and completed my Bachelor of Commerce Degree. I then went on to become a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). The majority of my time outside of work is spent with my one-year-old daughter. She definitely keeps me busy – whether it’s singing Baby Shark or chasing her throughout the house!

Describe your role at Hydro – what does a typical day look like for you?

I joined Hydro in October 2017 and in my current role, I’m responsible for budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis for Transmission Operations (TRO) – which includes TRO Central, TRO Northern, TRO Labrador and Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Services. I provide financial support to many managers, supervisors and union employees across the province. There are days I could be presenting financial information to management groups within TRO, analyzing data for finance, completing month end deadlines, or assisting a union employee with a financial related question.

What made you want to come to work at Hydro?

Hydro is a very well known and respected company in Newfoundland and Labrador! I was eager to join and advance my accounting skills while having the opportunity to remain close to home in Bay D’Espoir.

What role do you play in ensuring Hydro can provide safe, reliable power to our customers?

I analyze TRO’s financial data to better understand trends, risks and opportunities – that helps ensure our management team is informed and able to make key business decisions which allow us to continue being a provincial utility our customers can count on.

How are you involved with your community?

I’m quite active in my community. I’m the Treasurer for our local charity group in Bay D’Espoir and for the local children’s Play Group. Giving back to my community is so important to me, which is why I’m also a member of Hydro’s Community Champions Network – a group of employees who help plan and support community initiatives all around the province.

I help increase employee engagement in community initiatives in Bay d’Espoir and increase awareness about our Energy from the Heart community program. I love having this opportunity to further contribute to a culture of community giving, volunteering and giving back in Bay d’Espoir.

What is the biggest reason you’re motivated to do your best work here every day.

Knowing that the work I do, and the financial support I provide, is very valued by the TRO management team is what motivates me to do the best I can! I also strive to be a role model for my daughter and to show her the value of having a successful professional career.
