Earlier this month Hydro reached another important milestone in planning for the future of our electricity system, as we officially issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) to explore new sources of energy and capacity for the Island Interconnected System. Demand on our system is growing and we need to be ready.

This step builds on the work in our 2024 Resource Adequacy Plan, which outlines what’s needed to maintain reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible service over the next decade.

The RFEI complements the capacity projects we’ve already submitted to the PUB to be thoroughly and transparently vetted through the regulatory review process, including BDE Unit 8 and the Avalon Combustion Turbine.

Over the past several years, our teams have met with many proponents offering energy solutions, and we’re pleased to now continue our evaluation in this exciting next step in planning for the future of our electricity system. This is an exciting next step to solidifying a well-balanced and conscientious plan, informed by the industry input we receive.
