Building Talent: Hydro’s Co-operative Student Program
December 11, 2025
Hydro’s Co-operative (Co-op) Student Program offers structured, hands-on work terms in key areas of our organization, including Engineering, Operations, and Corporate Services. During these four-month placements, students support operational and capital projects while gaining insight into Hydro’s business strategy and leadership through presentations and engagement sessions.
The program provides meaningful work for students while contributing to Hydro’s business priorities. Many departments are actively engaged and eager to bring on students across various areas of the organization, and locations such as St. John’s, Churchill Falls, Soldiers Pond, and Grand Falls-Windsor and more. While most recruits study Engineering at Memorial University, the program also includes students from business and technology programs at Memorial and the College of the North Atlantic.
Talent Pipeline
Following a structured and consistent recruitment process, Hydro attracts strong, high-performing student candidates seeking valuable career development. Post work term, positive student experiences and strong engagement continue to drive interest from returning students and those considering long-term careers with the organization – building a strong pipeline of early talent to support our resourcing needs now and into the future.
Since its inception, Hydro’s co-op program has employed hundreds of students, and in 2025, Hydro hired 47 students – contributing to both the economy and long-term workforce development in our province.
Investing in students is an investment in our future.
