Equipment Advisory: Transmission line on west coast offline for annual maintenance
June 6, 2017
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) advises customers that one of the main transmission lines to the west coast is being taken offline for annual maintenance. The transmission line, which runs from Buchans to Bottom Brook, will be out of service from June 6 until mid-July. There are no anticipated customer impacts as a result of this work.
Hydro’s annual maintenance season generally begins in spring when customer electricity demand begins to decline and extends into fall in preparation for the winter months. During this time, Hydro maintains, replaces, and upgrades electricity equipment throughout the province. This includes preventative and corrective maintenance work and inspections, as well as larger capital projects.
Generation units and transmission lines will be removed from service for periods of time in order to complete the work. These yearly planned equipment outages are closely monitored and coordinated to ensure customer supply and system reserve requirements are met.
Hydro’s maintenance program is part of the Company’s mandate to invest in the province’s electricity system to ensure delivery of safe and reliable electricity for customers.
