Advisory: Testing of Maritime Link, Dec. 20-21

December 20, 2017

Customers on the island are advised that the new Maritime Link transmission line from SW Newfoundland to Nova Scotia continues to undergo testing. Additional testing will be conducted overnight tonight (Dec. 20) from approximately 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning (Dec. 21).

This is part of the process for Emera to complete commissioning of the new line. Hydro is working closely with Emera to coordinate the testing while ensuring reliable, safe delivery of electricity to our customers during this period.

While no customer impacts are anticipated, testing newly connected and integrated equipment such as the Maritime Link could cause brief power interruptions. We are carefully planning and preparing in advance of, and throughout, the ongoing tests in order to minimize any such impacts.

Significant work continues to be carried out that will strengthen the province’s electricity system and improve long-term reliability for customers. We continue to monitor the electricity system closely and we are committed to keeping customers informed.
