Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is informing customers on the Northern Peninsula of two upcoming planned outages affecting communities north of, and including, Castor River South.

These outages are required for our teams to complete critical capital upgrade work to transmission lines in the region. This work helps Hydro prepare the lines for winter, providing additional protection from adverse weather, as well as ensuring the lines maintain service reliability to customers.

The outages are scheduled for Saturday, October 17, from 7:00am to 3:00pm and Sunday, October 18, from 7:00am to 5:00pm, pending suitable weather conditions. Please note, not all communities will be affected by both outages. A full list of affected communities for each outage is provided below.

To keep the effects of the outages on customers to a minimum, Hydro has asked over 40 crew members from around the province to travel to the area to help complete the work as quickly as possible. We have also secured additional equipment, and assistance from a third-party contractor, to ensure we complete the work efficiently while keeping safety top of mind.

These additional resources have helped reduce the planned outage times from a full week to the two days we have selected.

Due to the work being completed, and the crews, equipment, and vehicles that will be present during the outages, we ask residents and visitors to please stay aware of activity in the area.

We realize that outages, even planned ones, are disruptive and we thank you for your understanding as we complete this essential work on the electricity system to ensure continued reliability for your area.
