The charging cable isn’t reaching your vehicle plug

Each of our Ultra-Fast Charging Stations has two cables, both of which include cable management extensions.

If the charger doesn’t reach your vehicle plug, gently pull to release the cable management extension to reach your vehicle. Each cable reaches up to 17 feet, giving you plenty of room to easily recharge.

Your vehicle isn’t charging at the rate you were expecting

Please remember that actual charge rates are determined by your vehicle and are based on how much power the battery can safely accept. This will vary based on your vehicle’s battery capacity and can also vary based on other factors, including battery temperature, and state of charge.

Learn more about our Ultra-Fast Charging Stations

Our Ultra-Fast Charging Stations are DC Fast Chargers (specifically, ABB Terra 175) installed in a paired configuration – meaning there are two 175 kW power cabinets supplying the charging stations at each location.

Even though each Ultra-Fast Charging Station has two charging cables, only one vehicle can charge at each station at a time. For locations with two charging stations, two vehicles can charge at the same time (one at each station).

In this case, when two vehicles are charging, each station can supply UP TO 175 kW per vehicle. When only one charging station is being used, the paired configuration allows that single charger to access both 175 kW power cabinets and so supply UP TO 350 kW to one vehicle.

Please remember that actual charge rates are determined by your vehicle and are based on how much power the battery can safely accept. This will vary based on your vehicle’s battery capacity and it can also vary based on other factors, including battery temperature, and state of charge.

For example, a warm battery (25 °C) with lower state of charge (~10%) will always charge more quickly than a cooler battery, with a higher state of charge.

How much does it cost to charge?

For our Ultra-Fast Charging Stations, the cost to charge is 30 cents per kWh and 33 cents per minute.

This hybrid rate is designed to provide a balance between per kWh billing and an incentive to unplug once your EV starts charging more slowly.

Remember, for the best charging experience, it’s recommended you stop charging around 80% before continuing your trip.

To help ensure chargers are available for other users, we encourage you to move your EV as soon as charging is complete. If your vehicle remains connected to the charger once it has completed charging, an idle fee of $1.00 per minute will apply (after a short grace period).

CCS and CHAdeMO – learn more about the charging connectors

Each Ultra-Fast Charging Station is equipped with both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors so you can select the connector that fits your vehicle or adapter. Each Ultra-Fast Charging Station can only supply one vehicle at a time – except in Conne River, where two vehicles can be served at once from the same charging station.

Please see the image below to see the charger types that are supported at our Ultra-Fast Charging Stations.

Only adapters from reputable manufacturers are permitted to be used at Hydro’s charging stations. Examples include adapters purchased from vehicle manufacturers or dealers, or adapters that are CSA approved and/or UL 2252 certified.
