Public Advisory: Possible increase in water flow and water downstream of the Menihek Dam
May 8, 2026
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners, and travelers in the area of the Menihek Dam, that through the normal operation of the Menihek Generating Facility, there may be an increase in water flow downstream of the Menihek Dam. With warmer temperatures, melting snow and increased water levels this time of year, Hydro has started spilling water from the reservoir. This is a controlled release of water to help manage water levels at the facility and is expected to continue until the end of June.
The public is advised to use caution when in the vicinity of the Menihek Dam and connected waterways as water levels and flows may be higher than normal and may be unpredictable.
