As our teams ramped up in September for the Labrador Island Link’s annual maintenance campaign it marked a milestone for the transmission line. For the first time, the Link is being operated in “economic monopole” mode – which means we will be bringing increased power deliveries from Labrador to Island customers during pole outages. 

Previously, power deliveries in monopole mode were typically limited to 30 MW, or less, but through the economic monopole mode, we will be delivering up to 170 MW to Island customers.

To ensure continued reliable operation, our teams will continue to monitor weather and maintenance activities and will adjust operation levels, as needed.
