Get to Know: Our Winter 2026 Co-op Students
February 26, 2026
Each term we are excited to have co-op students join our teams here at Hydro. Read more about our Winter 2026 students, why they were drawn to a work term with Hydro, the work they’re doing and what excites them about working in the energy industry.

ABBY REDDICK, Engineering & Operational Technology Team
Civil Engineering, Term 7 (MUN)
Growing up Abby’s early connection to the outdoors made her environmentally conscious and interested in doing work that benefits both people and the planet. This developed into working in the utility sector, where she can clearly see the impact of her work on people’s everyday lives and feel good about the path she’s chosen.
As part of our Engineering & Operational Technology Team, Abby works on projects in both Menihek and Churchill Falls. While her days vary, Abby’s tasks often include meeting with contractors, reviewing documents and drawings, participating in QA/QC, and making work packs and safety plans. Throughout her day she’s communicating with contractors and consultants, PMs, PEs, and other stakeholders on the projects she’s involved with.
One of Abby’s favourite experiences was from her fall 2024 work term with us, where she visited Menihek. Abby was with her supervisor, who used a drone to view the south dyke conditions before upcoming repairs and seeing the site from above really helped connect her to her work. She’s looking forward to more field time and learning through hands-on experience.
Fun Fact: Abby grew up in CBS, NL, right on the water, which influenced her love of synchronized swimming and shaped her sense of community. She stays involved at school as VP External of the Engineering Society, Civil Engineering 2027 Class Representative, and by sitting on the Civil Engineering Advisory Committee (Undergraduate Representative).
“I wanted to come back to Hydro because there’s a real sense of pride in the work and the organization, and you feel that every day. The people make a huge difference too. Everyone is supportive and great to work with. After completing multiple work terms with Hydro, I’m gaining more responsibility and learning how effective management and coordination keep projects running smoothly.”

BRYNN FURLONG, Long Term Asset Planning Team, Terminals
Electrical Engineering, Term 7 (MUN)
Brynn likes solving problems and thinking deeply about interesting topics so electrical engineering keeps her interested and curious.
As part of our Long Term Asset Planning (LTAP) Team, Brynn’s work focuses on terminals. She works closely with the equipment engineer responsible for power transformers and the work mostly revolves around managing these assets, preventative maintenance and monitoring asset health – whether that’s analyzing transformer oil samples, using data to update long-term plans, identifying suitable replacement transformer bushings or preparing tender packages for planned work. In her first week, Brynn was able to visit our Holyrood Thermal Generating Station and she looks forward to applying her electrical engineering knowledge to real world assets.
Fun Fact: Brynn loves walking and spending time outdoors.
“I chose to complete a work term at Hydro because I wanted to learn about the utility sector, which I hadn’t in my previous three work terms. As an electrical major, the nature of the work aligns with my interests and will allow me to develop technically.”

CHLOE MCNAMARA, Operations Team, Menihek Generation
Mechanical Engineering, Term 4 (MUN)
Chloe has always been creative and liked solving problems as a kid. She says that by studying engineering it’s like she’s making her inner child happy.
As a part our Operations Team with Menihek Generation, a routine day for Chloe consists of meeting with her team to discuss relevant projects, reviewing various documents and engineering drawings, and creating 3D models using SolidWorks. Chloe enjoyed having the opportunity to visit Montreal for team meetings with Hydro Quebec about their projects and is looking forward to visiting the Menihek Hydroelectric Generating Station at the end of her work term.
Fun Fact: Chloe is from Carbonear, NL. She enjoys playing sports, especially soccer and volleyball, and loves spending time outdoors hiking and bird watching. She also enjoys making things with her hands, including woodworking, painting and sewing.
“I wanted to complete a work term with Hydro because their values align with mine and they give me a chance to gain hands-on experience. I plan to work in the renewable energy sector so this work term is a great opportunity for me to be introduced to the field and what lies ahead for my future career.”

DANIEL HEWITT, Protection, Controls and Communications Team
Electrical Engineering, Term 7 (MUN)
Engineering wasn’t Daniel’s initial career choice – he already has a business degree under his belt. However, during the pandemic, he spent time taking old electronics apart to learn how they work and this curiosity and excitement drove him back to school to pursue electrical engineering.
This is Daniel’s second work term with us and he’s very much looking forward to his future career in the utility sector. As part of our Protection, Controls and Communications Team, Daniel focuses on the protection side of things. A typical day can find him using drawing software, such as Bluebeam Revu, to review and edit protection and control (P&C) drawings for a variety of different projects. Daniel is really looking forward to his site visit to a Northern Peninsula terminal station to complete field work. With a goal to focus his career in technical engineering design in the utility industry, this work term is allowing Daniel to fine tune his skills in this space.
Fun Fact: Daniel grew up in St. John’s, NL. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games, going for hikes and playing trombone in a community band. He also enjoys fencing and billiards.
“Following my first work term here at Hydro, it was an easy decision to return. Not only did I enjoy the work I was doing, but I enjoyed the overall culture and environment as well, plus getting experience in this industry is an exciting opportunity. Few understand the time and work behind keeping such a simple-looking, yet complex system alive. While the work done here may go mostly unseen in the public eye, its impact is visible every day.”

DENVER WHITEWAY, Engineering Services Team
Geomatics Engineering Technology (CNA)
This is Denver’s second work term with Hydro and as part of our Engineering Services Department he meets with his team, completes training, and uses AutoCAD to check drawings against those in the system. This office work typically accounts for about 20% of his workload, but the other 80% is spent in the field, and it’s this time outdoors, performing hands on work, that Denver loves most and why he’s so excited for his career.
His colleague John Furlong is very helpful and a wonderful person to have as a mentor and Denver appreciates that both his team lead, Jeana Peach, and John guide him every step of the way. Denver recently completed a short field trip to the Northern Peninsula – he enjoys how this job takes him to places all over our beautiful province. He’s also looking forward to his next field job in Snook’s Arm, which will be his first time in a helicopter.
Fun Fact: Denver is from Lewisporte in Central Newfoundland and loves playing basketball, poker and golfing in the summer months.
“I was interested in applying for my second work term with Hydro because of the positive work experience and opportunities I was given during my first work term. I have no doubt my time as a student will be a significant stepping stone in my career goals and hopefully lead to a fulfilling and bright future with Hydro!”

EMILY O’REILLY, Recruitment Team
