From the Flames

November 27, 2025

A story of kindness, compassion and perseverance told by the Eric G. Lambert School Student Drama Club

From the Flames is a play written and performed by the Pitchitawno Players – the Eric G. Lambert School Drama Group, a passionate group of 11 students from grades 6-10 in Churchill Falls.

From the Flames, tells the story of the June 2024 forest fires and the community’s evacuation through the eyes of both the kids and parents. Told from multiple perspectives, this play captures the experience of the residents of Churchill Falls in June 2024 and highlights the panic of having to leave their home on short notice and the constant worry of not knowing the fate of our community. At it’s core, this story is a tribute to the kindness and appreciation that arose from the flames.

On November 25, the Pitchitawno Players performed to a full house in Churchill Falls and received rave reviews with audience members saying the performance was heartfelt and captured the situation perfectly. There was high praise for their original songs as well.

These talented young actors are taking their production on the road to the Labrador Creative Arts Festival in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. The theme for this year’s festival is “Celebration” and EGLS Music Teacher, Melissa Sharpe, let us know that “the group thought it would be very fitting to write a play celebrating the kindness and support we received from Goose Bay in those scary days when the fire first hit.”

From all of us here at Hydro, thank you for sharing your story!
