Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is honoured to have received the prestigious 2024 Employer of Diversity Award from Atlantic Business Magazine. The Award is presented annually by Atlantic Business Magazine and recognizes Atlantic Canadian employers taking meaningful action to embrace Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging and Anti-Racism (DEIB-AR) in their workplace. Recipients are selected by a volunteer panel of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) specialists from across the region. As one of only four organizations in Atlantic Canada to earn this recognition, the award celebrates Hydro’s commitment to fostering an inclusive corporate culture that champions equality, diversity, and accessibility.
At Hydro, we know our strength lies in our people. It’s our employees’ diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and ideas that drive the great work we do – it’s an essential part of who we are. We have been on our IDEA journey for over a decade, taking significant strides to enhance diversity and inclusion through various initiatives. These efforts forming an Ambassador network to champion IDEA fundamentals and initiatives through the business, establishing gender equity targets in trades, technology, and engineering, and providing ongoing diversity and inclusion training for all employees. We have also created a comprehensive Accessibility Plan, aligning with the provincial Accessibility Act, to identify and remove barriers within the organization for persons with disabilities.
Hydro’s IDEA commitment is guided by its multi-year strategy, focusing on three key pillars:
- The Employee Experience
- Ownership and Integration Across the Business
- Partnerships and External Engagement
Through these pillars, we continue to work to create an environment where equity, diversity, and inclusion are not only valued but also deeply embedded into our organizational practices, allowing all employees to contribute and thrive.
