Update: Outage continues on Avalon Peninsula (January 11, 2013)

January 11, 2013, 1:45 p.m. – Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro advises electricity consumers that outages on the Avalon Peninsula are ongoing as generation issues related to the severe weather continue at the Holyrood Generating Station.

Hydro crews are onsite at Holyrood assessing the facility and working to bring the facility back online. Many electricity consumers on the Avalon Peninsula and some areas across the island are experiencing outages related to supply of power and generation issues at the Holyrood Generating Station. Currently, Hydro does not have enough supply to meet the electricity demand on the island.

Customers may continue to experience intermittent outages throughout the day related to the severe weather. Hydro continues to ask electricity consumers to reduce energy consumption by unplugging unnecessary appliances, turning down thermostats and refraining from using appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines until notified that the power system has been stabilized.
