Update: Efforts underway to restore power generation (January 11, 2013)

January 11, 2013

January 11, 2013, 5 p.m. – Repairs are underway at the Holyrood Generating Station. The station is now receiving power and crews are working to bring the generating units online. Once generation is available, additional power will be supplied to Newfoundland Power for its customers.

Some electricity consumers on the Avalon Peninsula and some areas across the island are still experiencing outages related to supply of power and generation issues at the Holyrood Generating Station and the electricity supply system.

As power is restored, customers may continue to experience intermittent outages throughout the evening as power is being restored to the electricity system. Hydro continues to ask electricity consumers to reduce energy consumption by unplugging unnecessary appliances, turning down thermostats and refraining from using appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines until notified that the power system has been stabilized.
