Update (7:30 a.m.): Power Outage Advisory – Great Northern Peninsula (Feb.7, 2013)

February 7, 2013

February 7, 2013, 7:30 a.m. – Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is reporting power outages to some customers on the Great Northern Peninsula. Power has been restored to residential customers in L’anse Aux Meadows, Hay Cove, Gunners Cove, Noddy Bay, Straightsview, St. Lunaire-Griquet and Quirpon. Crews worked overnight to complete repairs to equipment that was damaged in this week’s winter storm. Hydro began rotating power late yesterday afternoon until power could be restored to customers this morning. Crews continue to work to restore power to four commercial customers in this area.

Customers in Hawke’s Bay and Port Saunders have been experiencing intermittent outages since late last evening due to salt contamination on the transmission line in the area. Power was being supplied by back-up diesel generation, however a trip occurred this morning causing a power outage to all customers. A line crew will complete a patrol of the transmission line in this area to locate the exact problem areas and restore the line. Crews will also investigate the cause of the problem with the back-up diesel generation. An update on a power restoration time will be provided when more information becomes available.

Hydro apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the patience of its customers. Customers can get updates from the Hydro Power Outages and Emergencies (24 hrs) line at 1-888-737-1296. Updates will also be provided at  www.facebook.com/NLHydro and Twitter.com/NLHydro.
