Update 7:15 p.m.: power outage advisory for customers in Nain, Labrador (January 5, 2013)
January 5th, 2013
January 5, 2013, 7:15 p.m. – Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is reporting that
crews have completed temporary repairs to one of the two operating units at the diesel
generating station in Nain, Labrador. This unit tripped at approximately 10:00 a.m.
today causing a power interruption for all customers in Nain.
Currently power has been restored for approximately 70 customers. Power is expected
to be restored for the remaining customers in Nain this evening, however, due to the
nature of the temporary repairs, there is a possibility that the unit could trip again as
load increases when customers are brought online. If this occurs, Hydro will rotate
power to customers. Crews continue to work towards a permanent repair to the unit.
Additional maintenance crew and a line crew arrived in Nain from Happy Valley – Goose
Bay at approximately 4:00 p.m. Labrador time to assist the power restoration efforts.
There are three generating units at the diesel plant. One of the three units has been out
of service since late December due to engine failure. A new engine has been ordered
and this unit is expected to be restored by mid-February.
Hydro apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the patience of its customers.
Customers can get updates from the Hydro Power Outages and Emergencies (24 hrs)
