Transmission Line Repaired and Restored

January 28, 2015

January 28, 2015 – Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising that one of the main transmission lines serving the Avalon Peninsula, which tripped late yesterday, has been repaired and restored to service at 8:13 pm this evening.

A brace on one of the transmission towers was damaged during freezing rain and high winds late Tuesday afternoon.  The repaired line is one of two high voltage transmission lines that connect the Avalon Peninsula to the remainder of the Island power system. The system is designed to meet peak demands even when one line is out of service. As a result, there were no customer outages related to the trip.

Hydro is committed to keeping customers informed on the status of the electricity system and the company will continue to provide updates on significant system events.
