Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has received recent complaints from people who have gotten calls about their account charges from telephone scammers claiming to be Hydro staff .

Be aware, these calls are not from Hydro and are an attempt to steal money. The scammers may even provide, or appear to be calling from, a legitimate phone number of a Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro office by using “spoofing” technology.

Please note, Hydro will not request a customer’s credit card or other payment information over the phone.

What to do if you are contacted:

-If you receive a suspicious call of this nature, hang up.
-Report suspicious phone calls or emails immediately to your local police detachment or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
-If you have any questions about the validity of an overdue bill or service request, call a Hydro customer service representative at 1-888-737-1296.
