Safety Advisory: Public advised to avoid Goodyear’s Dam and immediate area on Exploits River

May 15, 2015

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising that significant damage on the Goodyear’s Dam in Central Newfoundland poses a safety risk around the immediate area of the dam.

Residents, tourists, boaters and hikers should stay clear of water and river banks near the dam, located approximately 2 km upstream of the town of Grand Falls-Windsor (adjacent to the Grand Falls Golf Course).

Hydro is currently assessing the damage which was likely caused by the heavier than average water flows this year due to large amounts of run off from melting snow, and ice movement on the river.

Hydro is monitoring water levels and weather conditions and will provide updates as necessary.
