Public Safety Advisory – West Salmon Dam, Safety Equipment Installation

June 8th, 2020

Public Safety around our dams and hydroelectric structures is of utmost importance to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. The Company is advising the public of the installation of a waterway safety barrier (a safety boom) upstream of our West Salmon Dam across the West Salmon River.

This structure is being installed so Hydro can ensure users of the water system maintain a safe distance from the dam and spillway.

We remind the public that water levels and flows can change rapidly around dams and spillways. Please obey all warning signs, fences, buoys and booms near hydroelectric dams and avoid areas immediately upstream and downstream of hydroelectric facilities.
