Public Safety Advisory – Public urged to adhere to all warnings, signage and fencing (October 18, 2013)
October 18, 2013
October 18, 2013 – Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is reminding the public of the importance of adhering to all warnings, signage and fencing around our hydroelectric sites and structures. It has come to our attention that recently, a member of the public climbed a ladder on one of the Surge Tanks at the Bay d’Espoir Hydroelectric Facility. This individual climbed to a height of approximately 60 feet, without wearing any fall protection equipment, and was at risk of serious injury or death.
The Surge Tanks are fenced off, there is warning signage in place, and there are guards/barriers installed on the ladders. However, as a result of this incident, Hydro will be conducting a review of site access and safety measures.
The incident has been reported to the RCMP for their review.
