Public Safety Advisory: Controlled Release of Water Hinds Lake, Cat Arm and Upper Salmon
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travellers that due to high reservoir levels resulting from spring snow melt and rainfall, the Company may be required to release water at the following locations. Releases may begin at any time in the coming days.
- In the Hinds Lake area of Western Newfoundland at Hinds Lake spillway through Hinds Lake Brook into Grand Lake; and,
- In the Jackson’s Arm and White Bay area on the island’s Northwest Coast at the Cat Arm Spillway into the Cat Arm River.
Releasing of water in the Star Lake area of Central Newfoundland at the Star Lake Spillway into Star Brook and then Beothuk Lake has ended, however, releases may resume at any time.
In addition, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is also advising residents, cabin owners and travellers that releasing of water is still ongoing in the Upper Salmon area of Central Newfoundland at the North Salmon Dam spillway into the North Salmon River.
People are advised to use these areas with great caution as water levels and flows will be higher than normal and may be unpredictable.
