Public Safety Advisory – Controlled Release of Water Continues

June 15th, 2015

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travellers that controlled releases are still occurring at several locations.

Controlled releases continue in the following areas:

  • Jackson’s Arm and White Bay area on Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. The Company is releasing water from its Cat Arm Spillway into the Cat Arm River.
  • Star Lake in Central Newfoundland. The Company is releasing water at the Star Lake Spillway into Star Brook and then Red Indian Lake.
  • Victoria Lake and Victoria River area in south western Newfoundland. The company is releasing water at the Victoria Dam Spillway.

The potential for controlled releases at additional areas is over for now. People are advised to use all reservoir areas with great caution as water levels and flows are higher than normal and may be unpredictable. Water releases at spillways could begin at any time.
