Canadian Navigable Waters Act
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) hereby gives notice that a submission has been added to the Navigable Waters Registry pursuant to the Canadian Navigable Waters Act for public comment described herein and its site and plans.
Pursuant to paragraph 10(1)(b) of the Act, Hydro has deposited with the Minister of Transport, on the online Common Project Search Registry (http://cps.canada.ca/) and under registry number 9861, a description of the following work, its site and plans:
Safety booms are being installed across the waterbody above and below the existing Gabbro Water Control Structure at UTM Coordinates: N 595928 E344501 NAD 83 ZONE 20N. This structure is part of the Churchill Falls reservoir system (Ossokmanuan Reservoir).
The two booms will have large concrete block anchors on either end on the shoreline. There will also be five drag embedment (ship) anchors on the streambed upstream of the structure, these will be attached to hazard buoys on the surface. The downstream boom will also have hazard buoys on the surface. Once installed, the anchors and booms will remain in place year-round.
