Public Advisory (UPDATED) – Notice for customers on Avalon Peninsula

September 27th, 2015

Update:  3:45 pm – Repairs have been completed. The Holyrood combustion turbine is available for service.

Previous Release:

As part of our commitment to keep the public informed on the status of the electricity system, Hydro is informing customers that the Holyrood combustion turbine has been taken offline this morning to complete repair work.

We are also reminding customers that annual planned maintenance work is continuing at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Plant. Hydro assures customers that it has sufficient power to meet customer demand.

In the unlikely event of severe weather or lightning which could potentially impact transmission lines into the Avalon, some customers on the Avalon Peninsula could experience power disruptions. Hydro will communicate with customers if such a scenario arises.

Unit 3 at the Holyrood  is currently available to provide 70 MW of power and will be available at full capacity in early October. Unit 2 is now scheduled to be available for service early October and Unit 1 in early November.

It is always a good idea to be prepared and know what to do in the event of power outages.

We will continue to keep customers updated on any significant system events. For additional information follow Hydro at www.Twitter.com/NLHydro, www.Facebook.com/NLHydro or visit www.nlhydro.com.
