Public Advisory – Hydro advises of transmission line outage on the Avalon Peninsula

January 27, 2015 – Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising that one of its two main transmission lines which supplies customers on the Avalon Peninsula, tripped at approximately 5:00 p.m. and remains out of service this evening.

The Company has identified the location of the fault between Sunnyside and Long Harbour, and crews are on the way. Currently there is no estimated time for restoration. There are no customer outages related to the trip and the parallel line was not impacted. As well, Hydro met system peak this evening.

Strong winds and freezing rain are reported in the area and therefore, to be cautious, Hydro is advising customers of the line outage. Customers are not required to conserve at this time.

This advisory is part of Hydro’s commitment to keep customers informed on the status of the electricity system and significant system events. Hydro will continue to provide updates on the system status as required.
