Public Advisory – Electricity Consumers on Island of Newfoundland asked to Conserve Electricity this Evening as a Precautionary Measure
February 9, 2013 – Due to current extreme cold and stormy conditions, combined with the continued unavailability of a generating unit at the Holyrood Generating Plant, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is requesting electricity customers to conserve electricity this evening as a precautionary measure.
Hydro, in cooperation with Newfoundland Power, is working to ensure a reliable supply of electricity to customers on the island. However, extreme cold weather and windy conditions across the island may cause some difficulties for Hydro to be able to provide sufficient power to meet demand during the peak period this evening when electricity use is at its highest.
As a precautionary measure, customers of both Hydro and Newfoundland Power across the island are asked to avoid unnecessary electricity usage and reduce their consumption as much as possible from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
People can assist by reducing their electric heat, conserving hot water by not running dishwashers, washers and showers, and avoiding using clothes dryers. Both utilities thank its customers for their support and cooperation at this time and apologize for any inconvenience.
