Power Outage Advisory: Power in some communities on the Burin Peninsula will remain off overnight

March 11, 2017

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising that power in some communities on the Burin Peninsula will remain off overnight.

Weather and highway conditions are extremely poor on the Burin Peninsula. Due to safety concerns, crews hope to start power restoration efforts for impacted communities again at first daylight. Weather permitting, crews will patrol the transmission line servicing the Burin Peninsula in the morning. At that time, we will have a better idea of the estimated restoration time for the communities of Bay L’Argent,  Monkstown, Petit Forte and South East Bight.  The line tripped earlier today during hurricane strength winds.

Currently, Hydro has 186 customers on the Burin Peninsula impacted by this outage.  Newfoundland Power has about 1,600 customers in the Burin area affected by the transmission line issue.

Please be safe and check on family and friends.  Visit our website and social media sites for updates.
