Power Outage Advisory: Labrador West
Hydro would like to advise customers in Labrador West of 2 upcoming planned power outages.
- Thursday, May 17 from approximately 12:00 A.M. to 4:00 A.M. (Late Wednesday night into early Thursday)
This will affect customers in Labrador City and Wabush, as well as cabins in the Walsh River area. (Operations at the Iron Ore Company of Canada will not be impacted). This power interruption is necessary to complete preparation work required in the Wabush terminal station in advance of an extended outage scheduled for June 10.
- Sunday, June 10 from approx. 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
This will be an extended outage affecting all customers in Labrador West, and is required to complete critical annual maintenance of electricity equipment at the Wabush terminal station. In addition, this outage provides an opportunity to complete work on the distribution system in the area. The extended outage allows the work to be done at this time rather than requiring separate outages. Operations at the Iron Ore Company of Canada in Labrador will also be impacted during this period.
We understand the impact that these outages have on customers and we thank you for your patience. Hydro’s annual maintenance season generally begins in April, when electricity demand begins to decline, and extends to November in preparation for the winter months, and is critical to ensuring all work is completed to provide safe and reliable service.
