Nalcor Energy testing Labrador Island Link from Muskrat Falls to Soldiers Pond as part of energization

January 18th, 2021

Work is being carried out by Nalcor Energy on the system to test/energize the Labrador-Island Link (LIL) from Muskrat Falls to Soldiers Pond.

While we do not anticipate any customer impact, when new equipment is brought online there is increased risk. Hydro is monitoring closely and will update customers as required.

The LIL has been undergoing testing since December 2020 and Nalcor is starting to flow higher levels of electricity across the LIL to the island.

In the event of an equipment trip during this testing, there will be a short impact to customers – called an Under Frequency Load Shedding event.    Hydro has sufficient generation online and ready to serve customers, so any outage would be short.
