Keeping customers informed during ongoing use of new electricity equipment
April 9, 2019
Our electricity system continues to undergo significant change. Over the past year, Hydro and Nalcor have been bringing power at various levels over the Labrador Island Link from Churchill Falls to serve customers. Throughout April, the power flow is expected to increase slightly. Any power brought from Churchill Falls helps save fuel burned at Holyrood, which is a benefit to customers.
Hydro is working closely with the project teams at Nalcor to ensure the system is being operated with careful consideration of risk and for the benefit of customers.
While we do not anticipate unplanned customer outages as power flow over the line is increased, there is an increased risk when using new equipment.
We’re committed to keeping customers informed on the status of the electricity system. Information is always available on our website for our customers to learn ways to prepare for and stay safe during outages. Customers can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook for regular updates.
