Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is alerting customers to a phone scam. We have had reports from a few customers who received a phone call from someone who claimed to be with Hydro indicating that the customer’s power will be cut off unless they pay their overdue account balance immediately. In some cases, customers are being asked to call a 1-877 number to pay their bill.

Please be aware that this is a scam.  Hydro is not making these calls.

What to do if you are contacted: 　

• If you receive a suspicious call of this nature, hang up.
• Do not provide any personal information, account information or credit card/payment information.
• Report suspicious calls immediately to your local police detachment or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
