June 19, 2025
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro would like to advise the public that on Monday, June 23, work will begin to complete upgrades to the distribution system that runs from L’Anse-Au-Loup to Red Bay, Labrador. This work is necessary to improve system reliability and will help reduce outages and restoration times.
This work will include:
- Installing new poles to address deteriorated poles, long spans and clearance issues.
- Replacing any non-standard or deteriorated conductors.
- Replacing all deteriorated insulators.
- Installing inline and storm guy wires.
Work is expected to take place between daylight and dark on a 10-day on, 4-off rotational shift until late August to mid-September.
Public travelling in the area may see an increase in traffic including heavy equipment and trailers. Please use caution if travelling in the area and follow the guidance of onsite traffic control.
To complete this work safely, planned outages are necessary for customers in the Red Bay area. Hydro has been working with the Town of Red Bay to schedule these outages to ensure they have as minimal an impact as possible on customers and town operations.
The schedule for outages is as follows:
- Wednesday, June 25: 5 – 11 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 2: 5 – 11 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 9: 5 – 11 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 30: 5 – 11 a.m.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for you cooperation and understanding as we complete this important work.
