Hydro advising customers that one of three Holyrood units is offline for emergency repair

March 12, 2015

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising customers that one of the three Holyrood generating units was taken offline late last night for an emergency repair. The unit is expected to be returned to service early Friday morning.

This repair was a necessary and prudent course of action to ensure the ability to conduct a safe and effective repair and return the unit to service in a controlled and coordinated manner. This is unrelated to the trip which occurred on the same unit yesterday morning.

Hydro is forecasting high customer demand during morning and evening peaks on Friday, March 13 due to cold weather. System generation reserves remain strong and Hydro has a preparation plan in place with all stand-by generation available and additional crews stationed on stand-by. In addition, the combustion turbine at Holyrood will be started well in advance of the Friday morning peak.

Hydro is closely monitoring the system and will advise customers of any changes.

Hydro is committed to providing regular system status updates to our customers. Visit our website at www.nlhydro.com for additional information.
